Holoride, a startup spun out from Audi, is introducing a virtual reality (VR) platform for use in vehicles at the CES 2023 conference in the US.

The company's technology uses artificial intelligence to analyze a car's motion in real time and combine it with the head movements of the VR headset wearer, in an effort to reduce motion sickness and improve the VR experience.

The VR platform, called the "Motorverse," aims to create a seamless experience for passengers by allowing them to fully immerse themselves in a virtual world while riding in a car. The Motorverse platform is powered by a token called RIDE, based on the MultiversX blockchain, which functions as an in-game loyalty token for developers and a currency for users across games compatible with Holoride.

The Holoride technology is currently only available on select Audi models, but an aftermarket solution called the Holoride retrofit will also be available for purchase.

The retrofit is a small device that is mounted on the windshield and wirelessly connects to the headset to enable the motion-fusion technology. The Holoride platform and headset can be purchased together for $799, or the retrofit can be purchased separately for $199 for those who already own a compatible headset.

A subscription to the Holoride platform is also required. The company expects the VR technology to be particularly appealing to families with children, as it provides a safe and entertaining alternative to screens or tablets for entertainment while on long car rides.
