  • SpaceX drops $2 billion on Starship rocket development in 2023
  • Elon Musk confident about reaching orbit within a year
  • Improvements and environmental concerns addressed for future launches

Elon Musk is planning to drop a cool $2 billion on the Starship rocket this year, after its mind-blowing first launch earlier in April. During a laid-back chat on Twitter Spaces, Musk revealed his expectations for the next flight, hoping it'll hit the orbit this time.

SpaceX is all about learning from experience, so while they have multiple prototypes in the pipeline, the aim is to gather as much info as possible. Musk feels pretty confident about reaching orbit within a year, putting the odds at a solid 100%.

Though the first launch had some hiccups, with only 30 of 33 Raptor engines igniting and a few other snags, the Starship rocket held up surprisingly well. The big boss man himself was impressed, as the rocket somersaulted through the air and still remained intact.

Moving forward, SpaceX is all about improvement. The focus is on getting off the ground faster and ensuring better control over the next launch. The aftermath of the previous launch was intense, with a "rock tornado" forming beneath the rocket, but Musk is optimistic about quick repairs and getting back to business.

Despite the concerns raised by environmental activists about the debris from the launch, Musk assures everyone that there's no real damage done. With steel plates and a water cooling system in place for the next launch, SpaceX is ready to make some serious space strides.
