January 29, 2023

Summary

  • Stock market rally continues, major companies to announce earnings this week.
  • Federal Reserve policy meeting, potential rate hike on Feb 1st.
  • Watch aggressive stocks BYD, Snowflake, Shift4Payments, and Etsy.

The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures will open Sunday evening. The stock market rally had significant gains last week, with leading stocks performing well and responding positively to economic data and earnings reports.

The market rally is continuing to show robust gains and has the potential to be a "moneymaker" or even a "life-changing" rally, according to a noted growth investor. Investors are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities, but to do so with caution as the market rally is currently at key levels and there is a lot of news expected this week.

Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms are among the major companies expected to announce earnings this week, with Apple and other tech titans showing strong rebounds. The Federal Reserve will hold its policy meeting this week, with another rate hike expected on February 1st. Tesla recently had mixed earnings and saw its stock skyrocket as CEO Elon Musk was optimistic about the future.

BYD, Snowflake, Shift4Payments, and Etsy are four aggressive stocks to keep an eye on, as they are in or near potential buy areas. ETSY stock is on SwingTrader and FOUR stock is on the IBD 50.

The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures will open at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. Remember that overnight futures activity does not necessarily reflect actual trading during the next stock market session. The stock market rally had significant gains across the board last week, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbing 1.8%, the S&P 500 index jumping 2.5%, the Nasdaq composite surging 4.3% and the small-cap Russell 2000 rising 2.4%.

Among growth ETFs, the Innovator IBD 50 ETF advanced 2.5% last week, the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF popped 4.5% and the VanEck Vectors Semiconductor ETF rallied 5.2% to a five-month high. ARK Innovation ETF and ARK Genomics ETF also saw significant gains last week.

Meta Platform earnings are due Wednesday night, while Apple earnings are due Thursday night and are expected to be rough due to iPhone production delays. Alphabet and Amazon earnings are also due Thursday.
