Over the weekend, hundreds of Tesla owners in China gathered at the company's showrooms and distribution centers to protest against recent price cuts that they say have left them feeling like they overpaid for their electric vehicles.

The protests were sparked by Tesla's announcement of the second price cut in three months, which the company implemented in an effort to boost sales and support production at its Shanghai plant.

Many of the protesters, who were recent buyers of the Model Y and Model 3 cars, said that they believed the prices they paid late last year would not be reduced as sharply or suddenly as they were.

The scheduled expiration of a government subsidy at the end of 2022 also contributed to the decision of many buyers to finalize their purchases. After the recent price cuts, Tesla's electric vehicles in China are now between 13% and 24% cheaper than their September prices.

While the cuts are expected to increase sales and force other electric vehicle makers to lower their prices as well, they have caused frustration among recent buyers who feel that the company has not provided an explanation or compensation for the cuts.

Videos posted on social media show crowds at Tesla stores and delivery centers in various Chinese cities, including Chengdu and Shenzhen, suggesting a wider consumer backlash.
