  • Trump mistakes E. Jean Carroll for Marla Maples in a 1980s photo
  • Carroll alleges rape and defamation in her civil lawsuit against Trump
  • Trump revisits "locker room talk" in the entertaining deposition

In a recently released transcript, former President Donald Trump found himself in a chill yet entertaining deposition, where he faced questions from a lawyer representing E. Jean Carroll, the writer accusing him of rape and defamation in a civil lawsuit. The deposition took place in October at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida and was shown to jurors in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

The transcript revealed a laid-back Trump, who at one point mistook Carroll for his ex-wife, Marla Maples, in a photo from the 1980s. His lawyer, Alina Habba, quickly corrected him, but Trump brushed it off, commenting on the photo's blurriness.

Carroll, 79, alleges that the incident occurred in the mid-1990s in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room. She also claims that Trump, 76 and eyeing the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, defamed her when he accused her of fabricating the story. Trump denies the allegations, describing Carroll as "sick" and maintaining that the incident never took place.

During the deposition, Carroll's lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, questioned Trump about his infamous "Access Hollywood" tape, in which he boasted about groping and kissing women without their consent. Trump continued to dismiss the comments as "locker room talk" but also noted that stars have historically been able to get away with such behavior.

With Trump's decision to not testify in person at the trial, the case moves forward, leaving everyone entertained by the lively back-and-forth during the deposition.
