Surfing the Windshield Wave: Tesla's Cybertruck Wiper Game

Tesla's Cybertruck has been on our radar for over three years now, and we're still waiting for it to hit the streets. Its polarizing design has made it a challenge to manufacture, causing delays that have let other automakers sneak in with their electric vehicles. And let's talk about that ginormous windshield! Engineers have been scratching their heads trying to figure out how to keep that bad boy spick and span.

We've witnessed a few wiper designs on different Cybertruck prototypes, ranging from standard-issue wipers to a solo, mammoth-sized wiper blade. It seems Tesla is settling on the latter. A drone enthusiast recently caught a glimpse of the EV maker testing this behemoth wiper near a wind generator at their Texas facility.

According to Electrek, the video shows an engineer observing the colossal wiper doing its thing. The bird's-eye view reveals it does a decent job of clearing the driver's side, but leaves the passenger side to fend for itself against dirt and grime. The truck was reportedly undergoing some sort of aerodynamic testing, parked on a rotating platform in front of an airflow simulator made of shipping containers.

While we can't be sure if this wiper design is the final choice, it's undeniably an attention-grabber. Swinging from the bottom right to the top left, it's a formidable presence on the windshield. We've seen other prototypes sporting smaller wipers or even no wipers at all. Regardless, Tesla will have to lock down its windshield-cleaning strategy before the Cybertruck can roll out en masse "some time next year."
