On the flip side, the majority of Americans, roughly six out of 10, stand by their belief that Biden won the 2020 elections fair and square. Meanwhile, a small 10% remain uncertain, scratching their heads and shrugging their shoulders.
Despite former President Trump and his allies repeatedly making claims about election irregularities, there hasn't been any concrete evidence to support widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. The narrative becomes even more captivating when we look at the Republican stance on the tumultuous events of January 6, 2021. Two years back, 62% of Republicans labeled it as a "riot". Now? That figure has dwindled down to 44%.
While Democrats and independents have remained relatively stable in their interpretation of the January 6th events, the Republican perception seems to be shifting. Patrick Murray, the maestro behind the Monmouth University Polling Institute, offers an insightful take: "Initially, a majority of the Republican Party felt the violence on January 6 went overboard, but that sentiment seems to be waning."
To spice things up further, both Trump and Biden seem to be gearing up for another showdown in 2024. Trump, not one to back down from a claim, insisted in a recent interview with Fox News that he triumphed in the 2020 race "by a lot".
