SUMMARY
- Surveillance catches TSA agents pilfering passenger belongings.
- Gonzalez and Williams nabbed; Fuster initially accused but charges dropped.
- Redemption for Gonzalez with state program; Williams headed for trial.
It seems Miami International Airport had a bit of a "hands in the cookie jar" moment. Security footage unveiled two TSA agents, Labarrius Williams and Josue Gonzalez, pocketing some unauthorized 'tips' from passengers' bags. On a sunny June 29th, in broad daylight at security checkpoint E, our duo was caught red-handed.
The video, courtesy of the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's office, plays out like a scene from a movie. Williams artfully distracts by moving items in a security bin, stepping away nonchalantly, while Gonzalez makes his sneaky move. The young Gonzalez, perhaps not the smoothest criminal, is spotted taking something from the bin and swiftly stashing it in his pocket.
But wait, there's more. In another snippet, our man Gonzalez is seen giving a purse an unwelcome inspection. As the conveyor belt chugs along, he adeptly plunders a wallet, inspecting it for treasures behind the protective cover of a bigger bag.
Now, fast forward a week, and the plot thickens. On July 6, Williams and Gonzalez, with an accomplice, TSA agent Elizabeth Fuster, faced handcuffs. They were accused of a $600 disappearing act from a traveler's wallet. Interestingly, Gonzalez and Fuster were quick to pen down their confessions, while Williams kept mum. Yet, in a twist, charges against Fuster were dropped. Meanwhile, Gonzalez might just have a redemption arc, as he’s been given a chance at a state program leading to dropped charges, provided he does community service, pays restitution, and hands over his airport credentials. Williams, however, isn't so lucky and awaits trial.
